The Champagne of Tea

Embark on a journey through time and taste with our First Flush Darjeeling 2020, sourced exclusively from the esteemed Monteviot Tea Garden. Nestled in the southern Kurseong valley of Darjeeling, this historic garden, established in 1856, continues to uphold the tradition of crafting teas of exceptional quality.

Upon infusion, this distinguished tea reveals a beautiful, clear amber liquor, exuding a distinctive floral aroma that captivates the senses. These delicate floral notes intertwine seamlessly with the muscatel top notes, characteristic of an outstanding First Flush Darjeeling, creating a symphony of flavors that dance on the palate.

Savor the tasting notes of this remarkable tea—a bright cup with hints of grassiness, freshness, and surprising fullness at the finish. Its unique character and well-rounded profile underscore its universal appeal and unparalleled demand among tea enthusiasts.

Graded as FTGFOP1 (Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe), our First Flush Darjeeling 2020 boasts the highest quality standards, with every leaf meticulously selected to ensure a truly exceptional tea experience.

While the supply of first-class Darjeelings may be limited this year due to shutdowns, the growing conditions leading up to the harvest were nearly ideal, with sufficient rain and warmth contributing to the tea's outstanding quality.

As you indulge in this exquisite tea, we advise against brewing it like your traditional black teas, as its delicate nature calls for a more nuanced approach to brewing to fully appreciate its nuanced flavors and aromas. Experience the essence of Darjeeling's terroir and tradition in every sip of our First Flush Darjeeling 2020—a testament to the artistry and expertise of Monteviot Tea Garden.

Please note that it is very important that this tea is not brewed like your traditional black teas.

About First Flush Darjeeling

First Flush Darjeeling refers to the first plucking or harvest of the year in the Darjeeling tea-growing region of India. This harvest usually occurs in early spring, typically from late February to mid-April, depending on the weather conditions and the altitude of the tea gardens. First Flush Darjeeling teas are highly anticipated and are considered some of the finest and most sought-after teas in the world.

The first flush is the earliest harvest of the tea year in Darjeeling. The tea plants, coming out of their winter dormancy, produce tender, young leaves that contribute to the unique flavour profile of First Flush teas.

The leaves of First Flush Darjeeling are often characterized by their tender, delicate nature. The plucking standard may include the apical bud (the unopened leaf bud) and the two youngest leaves.

First Flush Darjeeling teas undergo minimal oxidation compared to later flushes. The oxidation process is carefully controlled to preserve the fresh, floral, and green character of the leaves. The processing involves withering, rolling, oxidation, and drying.

First Flush Darjeeling is celebrated for its complex and nuanced flavor profile. It often exhibits bright and lively characteristics with pronounced floral notes, often reminiscent of muscatel grapes. The taste can be brisk, with a hint of astringency, and the liquor is typically lighter in color compared to later flushes.

The aroma of First Flush Darjeeling is one of its defining features. It is often fragrant, floral, and sometimes has a subtle fruity or muscatel scent. The aroma is considered an integral part of the overall tea experience.

First Flush Darjeeling teas are produced in limited quantities, and their availability is relatively short-lived each year. Due to their high demand and unique characteristics, these teas are often prized by tea connoisseurs.

The brewed liquor of First Flush Darjeeling teas can range from a pale golden yellow to a light amber, depending on factors such as the specific tea estate, cultivar, and processing methods.
